Anneslie is a community of neighbors
... who care about each other, our homes, our schools, our safety, our way of life. Located in Baltimore County just north of the Baltimore City line, our community began in the 1920's and today consists of approximately 500 homes. The community is built on what was once the 119 acre Villa Anneslie estate. The villa itself still stands as a beautiful landmark in the center of our historic community.
We are pleased to announce that on March 12th, 2012 Anneslie was officially listed on the National Register Of Historic Places. Anneslie joins Rodger's Forge and Stoneleigh on the National Register, qualifying homeowners for tax credits. Though the Application process began in August, the listing is the culmination of many years of work from volunteers within the community and the Anneslie Community Association. Their time and dedication is deeply appreciated.
Throughout the year the Community Association holds many community events including our annual picnic and community crab feast. So we invite you explore our site. If you're a resident please join our List Serve to conveniently keep up with neighbors. We encourage residents to visit often and volunteer to help with the events that interest you!
Historic Designation
Posted: 03/28/2012 05:27:01 PM
Congratulations Anneslie Residents!! Recently, our community joined a long list of national neighborhoods that are recognized for significantly contributing to the history and culture in their region. The Board has been working hard for the last several years to achieve this status for Anneslie, which became a historic neighborhood on March 12th, 2012. We hope to celebrate this recognition officially this summer. In addition to the national recognition, residents are eligible for the Historic Tax Credit. The tax credit is equal to 20% of the approved rehabilitation. Prior to starting construction you submit an application and get approval from the Maryland Historic Trust (MHT) and all applicable local historic preservation commissions, and MHT certifies that the work is consistent with the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation. For example, the total cost of your roof replacement ends up being $10,000, so you send MHT the final Part 3 application along with all receipts and photographs necessary to verify the expenses and that the work is consistent with the initial approval. If the Director determines that the project is approvable, you will be able to deduct $2,000 (20%) from the amount of Maryland State Income Taxes that you owe for the calendar year in which the project was completed. If you owe less than $2,000 in income taxes that year, you will receive a refund check from the Comptroller of Maryland. The application must be filed and approved before any work is done, so any repairs completed before applying to the MHT would not qualify. Generally, any work that rehabs the historic significance of the house would be eligible, like replacing a slate rook with a new slate roof, but a new kitchen, vinyl siding or replacement windows may not be eligible. Part of requirement for application is the submission of a map, locating the boundaries of the historic district. Board Member Pedro Sales (psales@anneslie.org) and his wife have applied for a recent project and have produced such a map that they are willing to share with anyone needing it. For general information about the Rehabilitation Tax Credit Program or to check the eligibility of your project, please contact Bonnie Baden at bbaden@mdp.state.md.us or (410) 514-7628. For more information about the program, visit http://mht.maryland.gov/taxcredits_homeowner.html.

Anneslie Yard Sale
Posted: 03/21/2012 02:23:03 PM
As you’re boxing up those winter clothes and making room for spring things, don’t forget to set aside a pile for the annual Anneslie Yard Sale. It will be Saturday, April 30, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Your cast-off clothes, shoes, jewelry, books, and children’s toys and games can be another family’s treasure.
Early birds start cruising the neighborhood at 8:30 a.m. or earlier, and they’re usually on the prowl for tools, costume jewelry, and other collectibles. Other popular items include children’s furniture, accessories, and small appliances. It’s a good idea to run an extension cord out to the front yard to demonstrate that appliances are in good working order.
Other helpful hints: label items with prices, or color-code with round “stickies” so that shoppers don’t have to ask about cost. Just list the prices on a poster: for example, red = $.10, blue = $.25, green = $1, etc. Clean items sell faster, and if you display them on tables or blankets, it’s easier for shoppers to browse. Start saving change and single dollar bills now. On the day of the sale, keep the money in your pocket or a “fanny pack” so it’s secure. Also, keep your doors locked. Several younger residents have set up successful stands selling lemonade, coffee, or cookies in the past. The rain date will be Sunday April 29th. Use common sense to decide whether the weather is going to push the sale to Sunday. If it’s just sprinkling and you see neighbors setting up their tables, you can figure that the sale will take place on Saturday. If it’s a morning-long downpour, we’ll all wait until Sunday. For more information on the yard sale, contact Molly Glassman at 410-377-5834.
